About Kati

Kati Phillips (she/hers) is a certified emotionally focused couples therapist, sex therapist and LGBTQIA2S+ affirmative therapist. She works with adults, teens, couples and folks in consensual non-monogamous relationships in Los Angeles and across California. Using attachment theory as her treatment lens, she helps people identify and disrupt their negative interaction patterns so that they can be more accessible, engaged and responsive to the people they love.

My Services

Couples Therapy

In emotionally focused couples therapy, we work together to identify your relationship strengths and where you get stuck in patterns of disconnection. We view the patterns as the source of unhappiness in your relationship, the patterns as the "common enemy" for us defeat. Then we engage in vulnerable conversations and cultivate a felt sense of being there for each other. I love working with queer, neurodiverse and interracial couples, consensual non-monogamous folks, and couples navigating the transition to parenthood.

Adult & Teen Therapy

We start with what good mental health means to you and your best hopes for therapy, and then work together toward your preferred future. I integrate evidence-based approaches, such as emotionally focused, solution focused, and narrative therapies, to engage in a collaborative dialogue. I believe you are the expert in your experience and aim to identify what is already working in your life and how you can do more of it (and less of what's not). Anxiety, depression, relationships, life transitions and gender issues are among my areas of expertise.

Family Therapy

My central focus is on helping caregivers understand and respond to their loved one's emotions in a more effective manner. We work together to identify and change negative patterns of interaction within your family that lead to disconnection and aim to create a more emotionally supportive environment for children and caregivers alike.

Sex Therapy

I help individuals and couples improve their sexual satisfaction and relationships by addressing the physical, emotional, psychological blocks to desire, arousal and intimacy. We explore your concerns, unlearn myths about sexuality, and use targeted techniques to address specific challenges in a safe, confidential and nonjudgemental space.

My Approach

Attachment based

I explore on how early attachments with caregivers, parents and guardians shape the ways we form and maintain relationships throughout life.

LGBTQIA2S+ affirmative

I celebrate and validate gender diversity as well as acknowledge the stigma and obstacles that gender-diverse clients may face.

Trauma informed

I prioritize safety, transparency, collaboration and empowerment and consider how familial, cultural and gender factors into our emotional experiences.
